My Philosophy.

For creativity. For efficiency. For artistry. For exploration.

I am here to facilitate your self-expression and to help you find the freedom (both vocally and creatively) to live your most fulfilling artistic life. We will work collaboratively to develop the tools you need to give you the creative options you want. I aim to support you as a complete artist through authentic creative engagement, efficient vocal technique, artist development and artistic exploration.

Meet MEL Toy.

Singer. Songwriter. Vocal Coach. Lecturer. Researcher. Creator.

Mel is a creator. She is an artist in her own right, expressing herself through the medium of music and performance. Basically born into the world singing, Mel has explored her medium through various styles and settings. She is currently involved in a number of original group and duo projects, whilst also developing a personal project which incorporates the rich musical traditions of her home country (New Zealand) with her contemporary influences.

As a vocal coach and singing teacher, Mel has worked with students of all ages and experience levels across a variety of styles and artistic mediums. In addition to her private practice, Mel works with BIMM London, the Sing Space and has provided lectures for The Voice Study Centre (Formerly the Voice Workshop). Mel is grateful to have been trained and mentored by several Master Teachers including Greg Enriques, Linda Tomkinson, Stephanie Borm-Krueger, and Rachel Black. Mel continues her studies today in the field of vocal technique through the Institute of Vocal Advancement and Modern Vocal Training. She has also recently acquired accreditation as a Vocal Health First Aider and Vocal Habilitation Professional with Vocal Health Education.

In addition to her vocal techniques education, Mel is a researcher and academic, holding a BA Hons (1st class) in Creative Musicianship and an MSc Psychology. She is currently undertaking doctoral research through the Department of Culture, Communication, and Media with University College London’s Institute of Education, investigating the ongoing implications of music performance anxiety on the wellbeing of contemporary singers.
